USD/CHF hour by hour, in UK time

By median range, the three busiest hours were 15:00 (15.1 pips), 14:00 (13.1) and 13:00 (12.6), and the quietest 00:00 (4.7), 05:00 (4.8) and 04:00 (5.4). Each figure is the median range of one clock hour in UK time, from 97 to 132 weekdays depending on the hour, counting only hours with at least 50 one-minute prices.

Median range of USD/CHF in each UK hour, 26 March to 25 September 2026: busiest 15:00 (15.1 pips), 14:00 (13.1) and 13:00 (12.6); quietest 00:00 (4.7), 05:00 (4.8) and 04:00 (5.4). The 22:00 hour includes the 17:00 New York rollover. Median range by UK hour, pips 01020 0003060912151821
USD/CHF, median range of each UK clock hour, 26 March to 25 September 2026. White bars are the three busiest. The 22:00 bar holds the 17:00 New York rollover and is left out of the busiest and quietest hours.

The 22:00 UK hour holds the 17:00 New York rollover. In the ten minutes from 22:00, USD/CHF's average range was 14.7 pips, against 10.4 pips for the other fifty minutes of the hour (averages over 90 and 98 weekdays). Ten minutes moved more than the fifty that followed, so a figure for that hour mostly measures the rollover, which is why the 22:00 bar is as tall as the busiest hours. We leave 22:00 out of the busiest and quietest hours for every pair.

USD/CHF by trading session

Sessions here are local business hours, Monday to Friday in each city. By median range, USD/CHF moved most in the New York session (34.4 pips) and least in Tokyo (24.3 pips). Each session is nine hours long and they overlap, so one move can count in two of them; the London and New York overlap is four hours.

Where the day's high and low were set

We split each trading day into four UK blocks and counted where its high and its low were set. Out of 131 full days, both the high and the low came most often in 22:00 to 08:00 UK (42 and 60 days). The first block, 22:00 to 08:00, is the longest at ten hours, all of them trading hours; the others are five, four and five hours.

After the six CPI releases it was 23.4 pips, and after the four Fed statements 34.7 pips, against 3.5 pips at 14:00 New York on other days.

Each of these figures rests on four to six releases, which is a small sample, so the table below lists every one. 08:30 New York was 13:30 UK and 14:00 was 19:00 UK on every release day here. What each release said is not part of this data.

The overnight range, London and the previous day

We split each trading day at 08:00 UK: the overnight range runs from the start of the day (22:00 UK) to 08:00, and London from 08:00 to 17:00. Over 131 days, London went above the overnight high without breaking the overnight low on 59, broke only the low on 40, broke both on 24 and stayed inside the overnight range on 8. By noon UK, 56 days had broken only the high, 35 only the low, 6 both and 34 neither. The median overnight range was 28.2 pips and the median London range 33.6 pips.

Against the previous day, over 130 days that followed a full day, USD/CHF traded above the previous high but not below the previous low on 53, below the previous low only on 42, through both on 15 and stayed inside the previous day's range on 20.

How USD/CHF moved with other markets

This is the correlation of daily changes, close to close: 129 changes, from the 130 days present in all eight markets from 26 March to 25 September 2026. USD/CHF's strongest positive figure was with USD/CAD (+0.61) and its strongest negative figure with EUR/USD (-0.71).

A figure close to +1 means the two markets' daily changes moved together in this sample: a buy on each was close to one larger position, because a losing day on one tended to be a losing day on the other. A figure close to -1 means they moved in opposite directions, so a buy on one and a sell on the other doubles up in the same way. Figures near zero mean the daily moves were mostly unrelated. If you hold two signals at once on markets with a strong figure either way, size them as one trade. Correlations change over time, and six months is one sample.

How we measured

We measured every full trading day, 17:00 to 17:00 New York, from one-minute prices, using UK clock hours and medians for typical figures. Every range is the high minus the low, leaving out the first bar after any pause of more than five minutes, whose stitched open carries the price from before the pause.
