Signal reader: check a forex signal before you place it

Paste a signal from any channel, as it arrived. The reader picks out the market, the direction, the entry or zone, the stop and the targets, shows each target in pips and R, and warns you about a missing stop, levels on the wrong side and prices that do not fit the market.

1. Paste the signal
2. Check the market

Leave it on the market named in the message, or pick one when the reader cannot find it.

What the reader checks

  • No stop loss. The reader never invents one. A signal without a stop cannot be sized, and is worth skipping whoever sends it.
  • A stop on the wrong side. A buy’s stop belongs below the entry and a sell’s above it. A stop on the other side means the price or the direction is wrong.
  • Targets out of order. TP1 should be the nearest target and TP3 the furthest, all on the profit side of the entry.
  • An entry far from the market. For currency pairs the entry is compared with the day’s reference rate, and more than 3% away is flagged: check the market, the price and the date of the message. Gold and silver are not in the rate feed, so their entries are not compared.
  • A market it does not recognise. Pick the market from the list and the prices are read again for that market.

A worked example

Press Try an example and the reader loads a gold sell in the format our signals use: entry 2410.50, stop 2418.50 and targets at 2405.50, 2400.50 and 2392.50. It reads the stop as 80 pips, $8.00 of price, and the targets as 50, 100 and 180 pips, which is 0.63R, 1.25R and 2.25R. Delete the SL line and the R column empties, and the reader says no stop was found.

Formats it understands

Labelled lines such as Entry Price, SL and TP1; one liners such as “EURUSD buy limit 1.0850 sl 1.0820 tp 1.0890”; entry zones; targets separated by slashes or commas; broker suffixes such as XAUUSD.m; comma decimals; and stops and targets written in pips. When a message gives no buy or sell, the reader takes the direction from the side of the stop and says so. It is the same reader as in our lot size calculator, and the message stays in your browser.

From the reading to the trade

Once the market, the entry and the stop are read, two buttons open the lot size and risk reward calculators with the levels filled in. Check every field there before you trade: formats vary, and a careful glance costs nothing. The guide to reading a signal explains each line and what to do when price has already moved, and copying Telegram signals to MT4 and MT5 covers the three ways to get signals from Telegram onto MetaTrader.

Questions

Is my message sent anywhere?

No. The message is read in your browser. The calculator buttons carry only the levels, in the address of the page they open.

What happens with an entry zone?

The reader shows the zone and measures the stop and the targets from the edge furthest from the stop, so the pips and R shown are those of the least favourable fill inside the zone.

Why does it say the entry is far from the market?

For currency pairs the entry is compared with the latest reference rate, and a gap of more than 3% is flagged. Check that the market is the right one, that the price is typed correctly and that the message is not an old one.

Can it read a signal with the stop in pips?

Yes. A stop or targets written in pips become prices once the entry and the direction are known. Without an entry, the reader shows the pips and R and opens the lot size calculator in pips mode.
